LEGACYdesign principle

Material practice is an early parameter system: pressure, load, hardness, dilution and surface can be treated like variables in digital tools.

These materials are not decoration added after the idea. Their weight, stiffness, opacity, manufacturing method or reproducibility help determine what forms are practical.

KEY NAMES / REFERENCES

People and works to connect

material makers, painters and conservators rather than one canonical author

Use these names as research anchors rather than a closed canon. The wider context includes workshops, manufacturers, patrons, collaborators and regional variants that a short reference page cannot exhaust.

PROCESS, NOT SLOGAN

How the visual system is built

01prepare
02test
03apply
04layer / modify
05inspect
06clean / preserve
Why this sequence matters: Prepare sets the problem; the later steps convert it into material, proportion and repeatable detail. The process is intentionally specific to this subject rather than a generic “focus / balance / rhythm” recipe.

The boxes contain the same amount of information; only their proportions change. Move the slider to see how layout alone establishes priority.

MATERIAL FACTS

Prussian Blue: construction and behavior

Prussian blue is an iron-based synthetic pigment first produced in the early eighteenth century. It was one of the first modern synthetic colors and offered a deep strong blue at far lower cost than natural ultramarine.

The pigment has high tinting strength and can appear almost black in mass tone. It became important in painting, print, dyeing and later cyanotype chemistry, where a related iron-cyanide compound forms the characteristic blue image.
